Police have opened a murder case following the fatal shooting of Thumeka Bikwana, the MMC for Corporate Services at the Chris Hani District Municipality.
The incident is believed to have taken place on the morning of 5 May 2026 at Tshatshu Administrative Area.
According to police, a witness noticed the deceased councillor’s driver parked outside her home at around 09:45. The driver reportedly complained that he had been waiting for a long time as Bikwana had not come out of the house.
The witness then went to investigate and discovered the front door wide open. Upon entering the house, Bikwana was found lying on her back in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head.
Police said the motive for the killing remains unknown, and no arrests have been made at this stage.
The case, initially opened at Bholotwa SAPS, has since been transferred to the Provincial Organised Crime Detectives for further investigation.
