UK communications regulator Ofcom has opened an investigation into Pornhub’s parent company, Aylo, over concerns about whether its age-verification measures are sufficiently effective at preventing children from accessing pornography.
The investigation follows a change introduced by Pornhub in May 2026 to its age-assurance system. For some UK users accessing the site through Apple devices running iOS 26.4 or later, Pornhub receives a signal indicating whether the device has passed Apple’s age checks.
Ofcom said the responsibility for ensuring age-assurance systems are highly effective remains with the online service provider, regardless of where or how the age check is carried out.
The regulator said it is concerned Aylo may not have conducted sufficient testing and due diligence before introducing the new system.
Ofcom will examine how Aylo implemented the system and whether the company carried out the required assessments before its deployment.
The regulator stressed that its investigation does not assess or determine how Apple operates its own age-checking system.
Under the UK’s Online Safety Act, services providing pornography are required to take effective steps to prevent children from encountering such content.
