Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Steve Letsike has condemned alleged threats made against women at a Sandton establishment after they rejected the advances of Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama.
Letsike said the incident captured on video highlights concerns around gender-based violence and warned that rejection, anger, intoxication or social status cannot justify threats against women.
She called on Home Affairs to review Mudzinganyama’s immigration status and welcomed his processing by police. He is expected to appear in court on 1 October 2026.
Letsike also welcomed private-sector action against him, while stressing that the criminal justice process must determine his liability.
“Women must be able to say no and continue with their lives without fear of retaliation,” she said.
