Gauteng police have opened an inquest after the body of an unidentified woman, believed to be in her 20s, was found wrapped in a duvet and floating in a dam in Moroka, Soweto.
The body was discovered at about 5pm on Sunday, 20 September 2026.
Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death remain unclear.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact their nearest police station, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit an anonymous tip through the MySAPS app.
The discovery comes amid investigations into nine women whose bodies have been found at various locations in Ekurhuleni over the past two months.
The first victim was found in a field in Kempton Park on 15 July, while the body of 32-year-old Itumeleng Kekana, who had been reported missing, was discovered along Great North Road in Pomona on 3 August.
