A wanted murder suspect has been shot and fatally wounded during a shootout with police in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, 16 September 2026, after police received information that the suspect was at a house on Ndimande Road in the Mzomusha area of Newtown C.
Police operationalised the information and found five men at the house. When officers identified themselves and requested to search the men, one of them ran inside the house and gunshots were fired.
The suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange of gunfire. No police officers were injured.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect was wanted for serious and violent crimes, including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and house robberies. Police also suspect that he was a member of the notorious West Gang and among the young men seen firing guns in a recent viral video allegedly recorded in KwaMashu.
A case of attempted murder of police officers has been opened for investigation.
