An Eastern Cape government official has died after he was shot and killed by unknown gun man in kwaZulu Natal on Friday evening. Nelisile Xolo 43 who was a district director of the O.R. Tambo Region of Cogta in Umthatha was at Margate when the incident happened.
It is said that he just left his house with his car and was at a stop sign when this gun men killed him. According to reports he was shot 14 times. African National Congress Spokesperson Lungisile Mzanywa confirmed the news. In a statement posted on the ANC facebook page Mzanywa said ANC Alfred Nzo Region is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Cde Nelisile Xolo. He said Cde Xolo was ambushed in the late hours of Friday by a gunman who riddled his body with bullets.
“It is unclear at this point what was the motive of the attack, however, police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting”, Mzanywa said. Cde Xolo is a former Regional Chairperson of the ANCYL in Alfred Nzo Region, current District Treasurer of SACP and ANC branch Chairperson of Nonqulana branch, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Subregion. He committed his life to the liberation struggle until his very last days. His youthful days were defined by his radical stance and defiance against injustice.
Likewise, Cde Dunywa will be remembered as an upright man who at all material times stood firm in the face of adversity for a revolutionary cause.
The ANC in Alfred Nzo Region extends heartfelt condolences to the family and comrades of Cde Nelisile Xolo, his wife and children whom his life was brutally taken away from by a gunman devoid of moral conscience.
May his revolutionary soul rest in eternal peace.
