National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams is expected to come under scrutiny when he appears before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday over sensitive Crime Intelligence documents that were allegedly delivered to his parliamentary office.
Adams has maintained that he did not request the documents and that they were anonymously handed to him. He subsequently forwarded the material to the former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), asking that allegations of corruption within Crime Intelligence be investigated.
His testimony is expected to provide the commission with his account of how the documents came into his possession and what he did with the information after receiving it.
The issue has featured prominently in the commission’s examination of alleged corruption, political interference and misconduct within Crime Intelligence.
Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels said the commission had been engaging with Adams since October last year, when he was first served with a Rule 3 notice.
“There has been back-and-forth correspondence between Mr Adams and our legal team,” Michaels said.
He confirmed that Adams will testify before the commission on 11 August.
