The Matatiele Business Chamber has welcomed the appointment of Advocate Mothusi Lepheana as the new Municipal Manager of Matatiele Local Municipality, describing the move as a positive step towards stability, effective governance, and sustainable development.
Speaking on behalf of the Chamber, President Zolile Mosweu expressed confidence in Advocate Lepheana’s ability to lead the municipal administration and address the challenges facing the municipality.
“As an advocate and a proud son of Matatiele, Adv. Lepheana brings valuable legal expertise and a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of our communities. We believe his appointment presents an opportunity to strengthen service delivery and accelerate development across the municipality,” said Mosweu.
The Chamber noted that the business sector is eager to work closely with the new Municipal Manager in advancing economic growth, improving governance, and creating an environment that supports investment and job creation.
Mosweu emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and impartiality in the administration of municipal affairs.
“Matatiele requires an administrator who will serve the interests of all residents and remain focused on delivering results. We trust that Adv. Lepheana will exercise his responsibilities independently and will not be influenced by narrow sectoral interests. Our municipality needs effective administration, not politics,” he said.
The Matatiele Business Chamber has pledged its support to the new Municipal Manager as he takes up his responsibilities. However, Mosweu stressed that such support would be accompanied by constructive oversight.
“Our support is not unconditional. As stakeholders in the development of Matatiele, we will continue to hold the administration accountable and offer constructive criticism whenever necessary. Meaningful progress can only be achieved through an honest and transparent partnership between business and government,” he added.
The Chamber wished Advocate Lepheana success in his new role and reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the municipality to build a prosperous and well-governed Matatiele that serves the interests of all its residents.
