Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, has wished Bafana Bafana well ahead of their FIFA World Cup opening match against hosts Mexico at Estadio Azteca on Thursday night.
Maile said South Africans are united behind Coach Hugo Broos and his squad as they begin their World Cup journey.
He praised the team’s quality and resilience, while acknowledging the role played by the Premier Soccer League, community football structures and coaches in developing the players.
The MEC also noted that the match takes place during Youth Month and the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, urging the team to honour that legacy through determination and patriotism.
“I have every confidence that our national team possesses the talent, discipline and fighting spirit required to overcome any challenge,” Maile said.
