A 59-year-old Lieutenant General is appearing before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with allegations of rape and sexual grooming involving two young women.
The senior police officer was arrested on Monday by members of the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team (CRTT).
He is accused of raping an 18-year-old woman at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026. He is also facing allegations of sexually grooming a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the arrest and said the officer would appear in court.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane welcomed the arrest, describing the allegations as particularly concerning amid South Africa’s ongoing struggle with gender-based violence and femicide.
Dimpane said police officers are entrusted with protecting women and children and are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct.
