The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has issued a stern warning to its members against publishing explicit photographic and video content on social media while dressed in military uniform.
In a media statement released today, the SANDF expressed “serious concern” over a rising trend where uniformed personnel are sharing obscene and suggestive material on their personal online platforms. The force emphasized that while it respects individual freedoms, such public displays of explicit content are seen as detrimental to the image of the military and undermine the values upheld by the SANDF. This follows the circulation of a video on social media showing a female SANDF member in full uniform dancing and gradually removing parts of her attire to reveal her body
According to the statement, this conduct—whether on or off duty—directly affects the discipline, integrity, and professionalism expected of SANDF members. The military body has condemned the actions in the “strongest terms” and reminded personnel that these behaviors breach the SANDF Code of Conduct.
“Such actions are strictly prohibited and constitute a serious breach of military discipline, professional ethics, and the SANDF Code of Conduct,” the statement reads.
General Rudzani Maphwanya, Chief of the SANDF, along with the entire Military Command Council, has voiced unequivocal disapproval of the behavior. The SANDF made it clear that any member found guilty of such misconduct under military law will face disciplinary action and may be criminally charged.
The statement concluded with a strong reminder that any misuse of the military uniform in public or online spaces is considered a criminal act under the Military Discipline Code.
