The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo has arrested four suspects during Operation Shanela II in the Tshamutumbu policing precinct, Vhembe District.
The multidisciplinary operation, involving the Provincial Intervention Unit and members from Tshamutumbu, Masisi and Makuya SAPS, included stop-and-search operations, roadblocks and crime prevention patrols.
Three men, aged 31, 37 and 39, were arrested after allegedly being found in possession of counterfeit cigarettes. Two of the suspects were also found with a suspected stolen vehicle and suspected stolen South African National Defence Force (SANDF) uniforms. Police seized the vehicle, counterfeit cigarettes and military uniforms for further investigation.
A fourth suspect, a 37-year-old Zimbabwean national, was arrested for allegedly contravening the Immigration Act after being found without valid documentation.
During the operation, police also issued six traffic fines for violations of the National Road Traffic Act. Officers searched 18 vehicles and 159 people, while also conducting inspections at seven filling stations and four ATMs.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised officers for their vigilance and commitment in disrupting criminal activities.
The four suspects are expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court, while investigations into the seized items continue.
