A routine border search has led to the seizure of a massive consignment of suspected dagga and the arrest of a truck driver at the Oshoek Port of Entry in Mpumalanga.
Police intercepted the Volvo truck at about 01:30 on Monday, 17 August 2026, as it entered South Africa from the Kingdom of Eswatini.
During a search of the horse and trailer, officers uncovered 49 bags containing approximately 630 kilograms of suspected dagga, with an estimated street value of millions of rand.
The suspect was arrested and is being held at Hartebeeskop SAPS, while the truck was also seized.
The vehicle, which bears Eswatini registration plates, reportedly belongs to a logistics company based in the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Police are now investigating where the suspected drugs came from and where they were destined to be delivered. Investigators are also working to establish whether more people are involved in the alleged trafficking operation.
The suspect is expected to appear before the relevant court on a charge of dealing in dagga.
