Controversial businessman and alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is reportedly negotiating a plea deal with South Africa’s Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) over the controversial SAPS health services tender worth between R228 million and R360 million.
Matlala faces charges including corruption, fraud, money laundering and attempted murder linked to the awarding of the police tender to his company, Medicare24 Tshwane District.
Investigators allege the contract was secured through misrepresentation and possible bribery involving senior police officials.
Reports suggest Matlala could provide evidence against high-profile figures, including former National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola, former police minister Bheki Cele and suspended minister Senzo Mchunu.
Matlala remains in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre, with plea negotiations expected to return to court on 26 June 2026.
