The two-month-old baby was recently admitted to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital to be monitored by a team that involves doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists and rehabilitative services through physiotherapists, occupational health therapists and dietitians.
Whilst under supervision in the hospital, one of the doctors, Dr Nonkqubela Mkizwana alleged that the little girl’s condition might have been caused by severe malnutrition. According to Dr Mkizwana, malnutrition is caused by not breastfeeding or eating properly.
Dr Mkizwana alleged that because baby Anothando was born in a poverty-stricken family, she suffered from severe malnutrition.
