Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Cllr Vukile Mhlelembana, may be serving his final days in office, as rumors surrounding his potential removal gain momentum. The Informer has been reliably informed by sources within the ANC’s Regional Executive Committee (REC) that a decision has been made to remove Cllr Mhlelembana from his position, effective immediately.
According to several ANC Regional leaders, the REC has discussed the matter with the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), and approval has been granted for the removal of Cllr Mhlelembana. Sources close to the matter also revealed that the mayor is aware of the decision and has already informed his staff about the upcoming change.
Efforts by The Informer to reach Cllr Mhlelembana for comment have been unsuccessful, as he has not responded to calls.
When asked for confirmation about the decision, ANC Regional Secretary Polelo Mohale declined to provide specifics. Instead, he offered a firm statement on leadership expectations within the party, stating, “Anyone who does not adhere to the ANC’s policies and defies the leadership will be removed. We are not waiting for the Local Government elections; those who refuse to toe the line will be removed immediately.”
Multiple sources within the ANC region have suggested that the leadership change could take place as early as next week, with the Regional Chairperson poised to step into the role temporarily. Speculation has also arisen about potential successors, with some suggesting that Tsieleng Sobuthongo, a prominent figure in the region, could be eyeing the position.
Further sources have indicated that Cllr Nomasomi Mshuqwana, the current Deputy Executive Mayor, is expected to assume the role until the upcoming Local Government elections.
