The Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court is expected to hand down judgment on Friday in the bail applications of two men accused in the murder of former world boxing champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete.
The accused applying for bail are 22-year-old Uzozole Goqwana and 28-year-old Sinebongo Qase.
The State alleges that Goqwana was the mastermind behind the killing, while Qase allegedly acted as an intermediary who connected the suspected hitmen to the planned attack.
They are among four men facing charges linked to Tete’s murder. The other accused, 28-year-old Siphesihle Kolisa and 27-year-old Athandwa Gangala, have abandoned their bail applications.
The bail judgment was postponed after the State presented a new ballistic report in court. Prosecutors allege that firearms seized from Kolisa and Gangala were linked through ballistic testing to the murder.
The defence has challenged the State’s evidence, with Qase’s legal representative arguing that the ballistic evidence does not place his client at the crime scene.
Tete was shot dead outside his home in NU17, Mdantsane, on 21 August 2026. A woman who was with him was also wounded during the attack.
The accused remain presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
