Zimbabwean national sentenced to life for trafficking and rape

A 33-year-old Zimbabwean national, David Chauke, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for trafficking in persons and rape involving a 12-year-old girl in Robertson.

Chauke was sentenced by the Worcester Regional Court on 14 September 2026 after being convicted in April.

He also received sentences for abduction, sexual exploitation of children and contravening the Immigration Act, all of which will run concurrently with his life sentence.

Chauke was arrested in November 2020 after information emerged that the girl was living with him as his wife. He remained in custody until sentencing.

He was also placed on the National Register for Sex Offenders and declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Hawks Provincial Head Major General Makgato praised the multidisciplinary team involved in securing the conviction, saying the exploitation of children would not be tolerated.
