Khanyisa Khayingana, 27, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Cacadu Regional Court on 03 July 2026 for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Tsembeyi Administration Area, KwaQiti Locality outside Cacadu. The conviction stems from a brutal attack on 30 August 2024, when Khayingana armed himself with a knife, accosted the victim and her grandmother, and forcibly carried the minor to a nearby mountain where he repeatedly raped her. He later took her to a rondavel, continuing the assault throughout the night before abandoning her.
The victim managed to return home the following day, where police were called and she was taken to hospital for medical examination. Authorities arrested Khayingana on 03 September 2024, and he made his first court appearance two days later. Constable Sonwabile Faku, the Investigating Officer, successfully opposed bail, ensuring the accused remained in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph praised Constable Faku for his dedication and thorough investigation, which played a pivotal role in securing the life sentence. He emphasized that the ruling sends a strong message that crimes against women and children will not be tolerated, and highlighted the importance of determined police work in protecting vulnerable communities.
