R600 million crystal meth lab busted on Musina farm

A suspected R600 million crystal methamphetamine manufacturing operation has been dismantled following an intelligence-driven raid on a farm in Musina, Limpopo.

The operation was carried out late on Thursday, 20 August 2026, by the Hawks and SAPS, with support from several specialised law enforcement units.

Five suspects, aged between 20 and 47, were arrested. They include two Mexican nationals, two Zimbabwean nationals and one Malawian national.

Police seized drugs and laboratory equipment with an estimated street value of R600 million, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Hawks said the discovery followed a two-month investigation into suspected drug manufacturing at the farm. It is the third clandestine drug laboratory to be shut down in Limpopo.

Hawks Limpopo head Major General Adv Gopz Govender said the operation had disrupted more than just a drug supply.

“We have struck at the machinery behind the drug trade. This R600 million seizure is not merely a quantity of drugs taken off the streets; it represents the disruption of an entire criminal enterprise.”

Limpopo SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers said police would continue targeting drug syndicates.

“We will not allow our communities to become markets for criminal syndicates. Those who manufacture and distribute these dangerous substances must know that law enforcement is closing in on them.”

The suspects are expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 August 2026, facing charges related to the manufacture and possession of illicit drugs. Additional charges may follow as investigations continue.
