KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to addressing undocumented migration while upholding human dignity, constitutional values and social cohesion.
Speaking in the Provincial Legislature, Ntuli said migration itself is not the problem, but managing it effectively is essential to protect the rule of law, public confidence and community development.
He acknowledged concerns about the impact of undocumented migration on public safety, employment, service delivery and social cohesion, while stressing the need to distinguish between lawful migrants, refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented individuals.
Ntuli said government must reject both xenophobia and lawlessness, adding that human rights and lawful governance go hand in hand.
As part of ongoing efforts, KwaZulu-Natal will host its Second Provincial Round Table on Undocumented Foreign Nationals later this month. The gathering will bring together government, law enforcement, business, civil society and community stakeholders to develop a coordinated response to migration-related challenges.
“The reality before us is that no single institution can address this challenge alone,” Ntuli said, calling for a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.
