Major routes in the Western Cape, including the N1 and N2, have reopened and are operating close to normal capacity following severe weather that caused widespread flooding and infrastructure damage across the province.
Western Cape MEC for Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, said recovery operations are continuing in several affected areas, particularly where electricity infrastructure and communities were heavily impacted.
About 62% of affected areas have had electricity restored, while Eskom teams continue repairs in the Cape Winelands and Theewaterskloof regions.
Humanitarian relief efforts are also ongoing, with displaced residents receiving food, water, blankets and shelter support.
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Service has warned of another possible weather system expected early next week, mainly affecting the Overberg and Garden Route areas.
Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and Bredell are expected to conduct an aerial assessment of affected areas on Monday as recovery efforts continue.
