Kaizer Chiefs have officially ended their relationship with midfielder Thabo Cele, confirming that the two parties have agreed to a mutual termination of his contract.
The decision sees the 28-year-old become a free agent after an 18-month stint at Naturena, where he made 36 appearances and played a key role in Chiefs’ successful 2025 Nedbank Cup campaign.
Cele’s departure is the latest move in Amakhosi’s squad overhaul under new head coach Fernando da Cruz, who has been trimming the squad ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
In a statement, Chiefs thanked the midfielder — affectionately known as “Induna Yendawo” — for his professionalism and commitment during his time at the club.
“We thank Induna Yendawo for his commitment during his time at Kaizer Chiefs and wish him the very best in his future career.”
With his exit confirmed, attention now turns to Cele’s next destination. The midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to reigning African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, with reports suggesting negotiations are at an advanced stage.
