New Social Development Minister Dina Pule has assured millions of South Africans that social grant payments will continue uninterrupted despite the ongoing migration from the SASSA gold card to the Postbank black card.
Pule said beneficiaries should not worry, stressing that the card replacement process will not affect monthly grant payments. She added that the Department of Social Development, SASSA, Postbank and the Department of Communications are working together to ensure a smooth transition.
The minister also announced that her priorities include strengthening the department’s systems, tackling substance abuse, protecting children from trafficking and improving social protection services. She said government will introduce biometric verification to improve the security and integrity of the grant payment system.
