The South African Football Association (SAFA) has dismissed reports claiming Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has been handed a one-year contract extension, describing the claims as “false, unfounded and misleading.”
In a statement, SAFA said Broos remains under contract until the end of July 2026 and stressed that no decision has been taken regarding the future of the national team’s coaching position.
The association said its governance processes are still underway and that the National Executive Committee has not approved or issued any new contract.
SAFA also criticised media reports relying on unnamed sources, warning that such claims create unnecessary speculation and mislead football fans. It urged media organisations to seek comment from the association before publishing reports on national team matters.
The football body said it will communicate any decisions on the Bafana Bafana coaching setup through its official channels once internal processes have been completed.
