Nearly 30,000 South Africans have already submitted applications for 5,500 police trainee positions following the opening of the South African Police Service (SAPS) online recruitment portal.
SAPS recorded 29,013 completed applications within the first 24 hours after the portal opened at midnight on Wednesday, while 156,131 people registered profiles nationwide.
Of those who registered, 78,473 completed profile verification, while a further 53,716 started the application process.
The police have urged prospective applicants to be patient when accessing the portal due to high traffic and to ensure they meet all eligibility requirements.
The recruitment drive is open to qualifying South Africans under the age of 35 who have no criminal record or pending criminal cases, regardless of race or gender.
The closing date is 13 November 2026.
