Alleged crime boss Katiso “KT” Molefe is expected to appear in the Johannesburg High Court as his trial over the murder of musician and businessman Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka gets underway.
Molefe is standing trial alongside three co-accused: Michael Pule Tau, Tiego Floyd Mabisela and Musa Kekana. The accused face 35 charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder and the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The case stems from the fatal shooting of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022.
The State alleges that Molefe orchestrated the killing and that forensic evidence links firearms used in the attack to other high-profile murders.
Molefe has also been linked in allegations to the so-called Big Five criminal network, which has featured in testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
He was granted bail of R400,000 in October 2025, while his three co-accused remain in custody.
The trial is expected to focus on the State’s evidence against the accused. All four men are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
