Pitso Mosimane named new Bafana Bafana head coach

Pitso “Jingles” Mosimane has been named the new head coach of Bafana Bafana, marking his return to the South African national team after more than a decade.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has approved Mosimane’s appointment as the successor to Hugo Broos, who stepped down after leading Bafana to the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mosimane previously coached Bafana between 2010 and 2012. His return comes as the national team prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with South Africa scheduled to face Guinea and Eritrea later this month.

The 62-year-old is one of South Africa’s most decorated coaches. He led Mamelodi Sundowns to the CAF Champions League title in 2016 before guiding Egyptian giants Al Ahly to back-to-back continental titles in 2020 and 2021.

Mosimane’s appointment comes with high expectations as he takes charge of a Bafana side that has gained renewed confidence following its historic World Cup campaign.

His immediate task will be to build on that progress and prepare the team for the upcoming AFCON qualification campaign.
