A 59-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman have been arrested after approximately 200 people were found at an alleged illegal rehabilitation centre in Waterval B, Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga.
The arrests followed an operation by the Department of Social Development and SAPS on Thursday, 15 October 2026. Fourteen people were taken for medical treatment during the operation.
The couple faces charges of kidnapping, operating an unregistered substance abuse treatment centre and violating health and safety requirements.
Police have not ruled out further arrests as investigations continue.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Mdutjana Magistrates’ Court in Siyabuswa on Monday, 19 October 2026.
