Eastern Cape health denies claims patient was left unattended before death

The Eastern Cape Department of Health has dismissed social media claims that a 64-year-old man died after nurses at Mqanduli Community Health Centre allegedly left him unattended during a lunch break.

The department said the patient was brought to the facility with no signs of life and was declared dead after a clinical assessment.

“The claims are false, inflammatory, and misrepresent what occurred at the facility,” the department said.

It also criticised the spread of unverified allegations, saying: “The circulation of unverified information misleads the public, damages the reputation of healthcare workers and undermines public trust in the health system.”

The department extended its condolences to the family and urged the public and content creators to verify information before publishing it.
