Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe is expected to continue his career in Japan for the foreseeable future, despite ongoing speculation about a possible return to South African rugby.
According to Roc Nation Sports International, Kolbe is likely to remain in Japan Rugby League One, where he is currently enjoying strong form, although a future move back home has not been ruled out.
The Stormers were previously linked with the dynamic winger, but the Cape Town-based franchise has confirmed that only informal discussions took place and no formal offer was made.
Roc Nation Sports International president Michael Yormark indicated that the 32-year-old is settled in Japan and is expected to honour his current contract, which runs until at least after the next Rugby World Cup in Australia. A decision on his long-term future is likely to follow thereafter.
Kolbe, a Cape Town native, began his professional career with the Stormers in 2013 before moving to Stade Toulousain in 2017, where he further established himself as one of the most dangerous attacking players in world rugby. He made his Springbok debut a year later.
Now playing for Suntory in Japan, Kolbe is said to be thriving both on and off the field, with multiple Player of the Match performances highlighting his impact in the league.
While a return to the Stormers remains a possibility in the future, all indications are that Kolbe will continue to shine in Japan for the time being, focusing on his current commitments and international ambitions with the Springboks.
