Ramaphosa appoints Dambuza-Mayosi and Savage to Constitutional Court

President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Justice Nambitha Christabel Dambuza-Mayosi and Justice Katharine Mary Savage as Judges of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, with effect from 1 May 2026.

The appointments were made following consultation with Chief Justice Mandisa Maya and leaders of political parties represented in the National Assembly, in accordance with section 174(4) of the Constitution.

Justice Dambuza-Mayosi currently serves on the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa, where she has been a judge since June 2015, including an extended period acting as President of the court. Her career spans more than three decades across legal practice, academia, and the judiciary.

Justice Savage was appointed to the Western Cape High Court in 2015 and has served on the Labour Appeal Court of South Africa since 2024.

In a statement, President Ramaphosa congratulated the two judges, wishing them well in their new roles. He praised their long-standing commitment to justice and constitutional values, noting that they join the apex court during the year marking 30 years since the adoption of South Africa’s democratic Constitution.

“They have for decades served the cause and practice of justice with great diligence, foresight and commitment to our Constitution,” he said, adding that their appointment comes at a significant moment for the country and the Constitutional Court.
