Eswatini reassures citizens in South Africa amid rising immigration tensions

The Kingdom of Eswatini has reassured its citizens living in South Africa of continued government support amid growing concerns over anti-illegal immigration protests in parts of the country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu, said the government remains committed to protecting the welfare of Emaswati who live, work, study, visit, or travel through South Africa.

Shakantu encouraged citizens to stay in contact with Eswatini’s diplomatic missions, including the High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate in Johannesburg, for assistance with emergencies, documentation, welfare matters, and other consular services.

The ministry also warned citizens against individuals or organisations falsely claiming to represent government officials or offering unofficial assistance.

Officials urged Emaswati to seek help only through verified diplomatic channels to avoid exploitation during a period of heightened social tensions.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the interests and wellbeing of Emaswati citizens wherever they may be.
