Counterfeit goods worth R10 million seized in major Bellville raid

Police have confiscated counterfeit goods valued at approximately R10 million during a major law enforcement operation at a shopping complex in Bellville, Cape Town.

The raid, conducted on 16 June 2026, saw authorities search more than 40 stores, resulting in the seizure of counterfeit luxury-branded clothing, footwear, handbags, watches, sunglasses, caps and branded packaging materials.

According to SAPS national spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, the operation was led by the SAPS National and Western Cape Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Units, supported by several law enforcement and industry partners.

The multidisciplinary team included members of SAPS, the Cape Town Metropolitan Police Department, the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement Unit and brand protection representatives.

The operation marks the second major enforcement action at the Bellville complex within a week and forms part of an ongoing campaign to crack down on the trade of counterfeit goods and dismantle illicit supply networks operating in the Western Cape.
