Sentencing proceedings are expected to resume today at the Alexandra Regional Court in the case involving Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, following their guilty pleas linked to a shooting incident at a Hyde Park residence.
Mugabe pleaded guilty to two charges: pointing what is believed to be a firearm prior to the shooting, and being in the country illegally.
His co-accused, Matonhodze, pleaded guilty to a more serious set of offences, including attempted murder, being in the country illegally, illegal possession of a firearm, and defeating the ends of justice.
The matter was previously postponed to allow the defence additional time to locate the firearm used in the incident, which has still not been recovered. The missing weapon remains a key issue, with the court seeking clarity before finalising sentencing.
With both accused having admitted guilt, proceedings have shifted to sentencing. The State and defence are expected to present their final submissions, focusing on aggravating and mitigating factors, before the court delivers its judgment.
