Two suspects accused of murdering former world boxing champion Zolani “Last Born” Tete are back in the Mdantsane Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to apply for bail.
The accused, 22-year-old Uzuzole Goqwana and 28-year-old Sinebongo Qase, are among four suspects arrested in connection with Tete’s fatal shooting in NU17, Mdantsane, on 21 August 2026.
Tete was allegedly shot dead during an attack that also left his 27-year-old partner wounded.
The latest court appearance comes just days after Tete was laid to rest on Saturday, with family, friends, boxing colleagues and members of the community gathering to pay their final respects to the former champion.
The State is opposing bail and has indicated that the murder is regarded as a Schedule 6 offence.
Two other accused, Siphesihle Kolisa, 28, and Athandwa Gangala, 27, have abandoned their bail applications. They are expected to return to court on 13 October 2026.
