Former anti-corruption boss Andrea Johnson and Feroz Khan arrested

In a dramatic development in South Africa’s criminal justice system, former Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson and former Deputy Crime Intelligence head Major-General Feroz Khan have been arrested.

The arrests, reported on Friday, 30 October 2026, are in connection with charges of defeating the ends of justice.

The development is likely to intensify scrutiny surrounding the pair, whose relationship and alleged dealings became a major focus of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Johnson and Khan’s names featured prominently during the commission’s hearings, where allegations were raised about possible interference in a criminal investigation involving Khan.

Retired Hawks Colonel Kobus Roelofse previously testified that Johnson allegedly obtained and shared information from a 2018 assault case docket involving Khan before he had submitted his warning statement.

The allegations raised questions about whether Khan had been given access to confidential information that could have compromised the investigation.

The commission also heard evidence about the relationship between Johnson and Khan, including WhatsApp messages that suggested their association extended beyond professional boundaries.

Johnson previously acknowledged having a “very deep” and personal relationship with Khan during her testimony.

The arrests mark a significant new development in a saga that has placed senior figures within South Africa’s criminal justice system under intense scrutiny.
