A 40-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Dalasile Periodical Court on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, after being arrested for the alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The arrest was made on 18 May 2026 by members of the Mthatha Public Order Police (POPO) Unit working with South African Police Service in Dalasile, following a tip-off about a man allegedly in possession of an illegal firearm in the Sigidi Administration Area in Ngxangxasi.
Police say officers obtained permission to search the premises, where they recovered a Norinco 9mm pistol, a magazine, and six rounds of live ammunition. The suspect was unable to produce a valid firearm license and was immediately arrested and detained at Dalasile Police Station.
The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, condemned the proliferation of illegal firearms in communities.
“These weapons pose a serious threat to public safety,” he said, warning that police operations to remove illegal guns from the streets will continue.
