A 35-year-old man has been arrested after police recovered three prohibited homemade firearms and live ammunition during an intelligence-driven operation in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape.
The operation, conducted by Port St Johns Crime Intelligence and the OR Tambo District Task Team, led to the suspect’s arrest at Magoba locality at about 3:30am on Tuesday, 14 July. Police seized two homemade shotguns, one homemade handgun and three live shotgun shells.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrate’s Court on charges of unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and live ammunition.
OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Norman Modishana commended the SAPS members involved, praising the coordinated operation and stressing the importance of teamwork in the fight against crime.
