Former deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya will remain in custody after the Randburg Magistrates’ Court postponed judgment on his bail application to Tuesday, 20 October 2026.
Sibiya appeared in court on Thursday, where Magistrate Hlengiwe Mkhabisi said she needed more time to consider the extensive documentation submitted during the bail proceedings.
“I’m not going to be in a position to deliver my judgment today. I can’t even do it tomorrow, unfortunately,” Mkhabisi told the court.
The magistrate confirmed that judgment would be delivered at 8am on Tuesday.
Sibiya is facing serious allegations, including the alleged sexual grooming of his driver’s 16-year-old daughter and the rape of an 18-year-old woman.
The allegations form part of the criminal case against the former senior police official, whose bail application has been contested by the state and his defence team.
The court is expected to deliver its decision next week.
