Senzo Meyiwa supporters to March over trial delays

Supporters and family members of slain Senzo Meyiwa are expected to march to the Union Buildings on Tuesday, demanding faster progress in the long-running murder trial linked to his 2014 killing.

The protest comes amid growing frustration over delays, courtroom disputes and allegations surrounding the investigation into the former Bafana Bafana captain’s death.

Speaking to the South African Broadcasting Corporation, GIWUSA president Mametlwe Sebei said the Meyiwa family had been “failed at all levels”, adding that “justice delayed is justice denied”.

Five accused men are currently on trial and have all pleaded not guilty.

The case has also exposed divisions within the family, with Senzo’s brother Sifiso Meyiwa calling for the matter to be reopened, while others believe the current process could still deliver justice.
