Four women raped and robbed in Lusikisiki after fake Facebook job offers

Police have warned the public to remain vigilant against job scams after four women were allegedly lured to Lusikisiki through a fake Facebook job scheme and subsequently raped and robbed.

According to police, the incidents occurred between April and May 2026, involving victims from Addo, Lesotho and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal. The women, aged between 26 and 43, were allegedly targeted through fraudulent job offers for domestic work advertised on Facebook.

Police said the victims received calls from a woman offering them employment opportunities as domestic workers. The unsuspecting women were allegedly instructed to travel to Lusikisiki and arrive late in the evening because the supposed employer was unavailable during the day.

The caller would then allegedly inform the victims that a man would be sent to fetch them from the Mangolwane bus stop in Lusikisiki.

Upon arrival on separate days, the victims alleged that they were led into a nearby forest in the Nyuswa locality by a male suspect, where they were raped and robbed of their personal belongings.

Police said investigations into the incidents are ongoing and urged members of the public to exercise caution when responding to job advertisements on social media platforms.

Authorities further encouraged job seekers to verify employment offers, avoid travelling alone to unfamiliar places, and inform relatives or friends about their whereabouts before attending interviews or meetings linked to job opportunities.

Anyone with information that could assist police investigations is urged to contact the nearest police station.
