Bafana Bafana set to depart today for world cup

Bafana Bafana will depart for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Monday morning after visa-related issues that delayed the team’s travel plans were successfully resolved.

The South African senior men’s national team had initially been scheduled to leave for the tournament on Sunday. However, the departure was postponed after several players and members of the technical staff had not yet received their visas.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed that all outstanding travel documents have since been secured, clearing the way for the team’s charter flight to depart on Monday.

The departure marks the final stage of preparations for Hugo Broos’ squad ahead of South Africa’s return to football’s biggest stage.

Broos officially announced his 26-man FIFA World Cup squad on Monday evening, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to compete against some of the world’s best nations.

Bafana Bafana will begin their World Cup campaign against Mexico on 11 June 2026 in the tournament’s opening match. The clash is expected to provide an early test for the South Africans as they look to make a strong start on the global stage.

With the visa setback now behind them, the focus shifts entirely to preparations for the highly anticipated encounter and the challenge of representing South Africa at the FIFA World Cup.
