Two young men have died while ten others were injured when they were struck by lightning on a soccer field in Sheepmoor in Mpumalanga.
ER24 said their paramedics, as well as Provincial EMS, arrived at the scene shortly after 6 pm on Saturday to find two men lying under a tree.
Spokesperson, Russel Meiring said the two, both believed to be 18 years old, showed no signs of life.
“Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead,” he said.
Meiring said ten other men and women were assessed and found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
“The patients were treated and thereafter transported to Ermelo Provincial Hospital for urgent treatment. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” he said.
