A 36-year-old parolee, Sinenhlanhla Dlamini, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a 23-year-old man in KwaZulu-Natal.
Dlamini and his 23-year-old co-accused attacked the victim with a bush knife and a knife while he was walking home from his girlfriend’s house on 3 November 2020.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), an eyewitness who knew the accused tried to stop the attack, but the pair fled after the witness approached them. The victim later died at hospital.
The court heard that Dlamini had six previous convictions for crimes including assault, robbery and theft, and committed the murder while on parole.
His co-accused was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment because he was a minor when the crime was committed.
The NPA welcomed the convictions and sentences, saying the outcome sends a clear message that violent crime will not be tolerated.
