South Africans who still need to apply for or collect their identity documents will have extended opportunities to do so before the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections.
The Department of Home Affairs will keep all its front offices open from 8am to 6pm between 2 and 4 November to help eligible voters obtain the documentation needed to participate in the elections.
Services will include collecting completed identity documents, submitting ID applications and obtaining Temporary Identity Certificates (TICs), where applicable.
On Election Day, offices will operate for longer hours, from 7am until 9pm, in line with the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s operating hours.
Home Affairs has urged citizens who have already applied for identity documents to collect them, while community leaders and local structures have been asked to encourage eligible voters to make use of the extended services.
