Former Crime Intelligence head Mulangi Mphego has suffered a legal setback after the Johannesburg Magistrate Court struck off his application seeking to have a police raid at his Centurion home declared unconstitutional.
Mphego challenged the July search-and-seizure operation, during which police reportedly seized documents and electronic devices as part of an investigation into the 2021 death of former deputy national commissioner for crime detection, Lieutenant-General Sindile Mfazi.
The development comes as Mphego faces a separate case involving the alleged unlawful possession of more than 100 rounds of police-issued ammunition reportedly found during the raid. He was granted R5,000 bail in October.
Mphego is also a suspect in the investigation into Mfazi’s death, which is being investigated as a possible murder. He has not been reported as having been charged with murder in connection with the case.
