Former president Jacob Zuma’s reported discharge from hospital has been disputed by the Jacob Zuma Foundation, which says the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader remains in hospital.
eNCA reported on Tuesday that Zuma had been discharged from Netcare St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg on Monday night after nearly a week of medical care. He was reportedly advised to remain in the area overnight in case of a medical emergency.
His doctors were expected to assess his condition on Tuesday before deciding whether he could travel to his Nkandla homestead.
However, Foundation spokesperson Mzwanele Manyi disputed the discharge reports, saying they were not true.
Zuma, 84, was admitted to hospital last week. The Presidency previously said he was undergoing a routine medical check-up, which he receives twice a year, under the care of the surgeon-general.
His hospitalisation has prompted public concern and speculation about his health, with the Foundation calling for greater respect for his privacy.
