Mamelodi Sundowns moved six points clear at the top of the Betway Premiership after cruising to a 3-0 victory over Siwelele FC at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.
The win extended the Brazilians’ winning run to five matches across all competitions, although they have played two more league games than second-placed and defending champions Orlando Pirates.
Sundowns dominated from the opening whistle but struggled to convert their chances in the first half, with Cassius Mailula and Brayan Leon both going close.
The breakthrough finally came in the 58th minute when Teboho Mokoena’s long-range effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Siwelele goalkeeper Wandile Mthombeni. Kutlwano Letlhaku reacted quickest to score from the rebound.
Sundowns doubled their advantage in the 79th minute after Aphiwe Baliti’s poor back-pass allowed substitute Siyanda Ndlovu to pounce and score his second goal in as many matches.
Tashreeq Matthews completed the rout in stoppage time, capitalising on another defensive mistake before calmly chipping Mthombeni.
The defeat leaves Siwelele 15th on the table and still without a win after six matches.
Sundowns will travel to face Chippa United on Saturday, while Siwelele host Golden Arrows on Sunday.
