At least two people have died, and 12 others sustained various injuries following a head-on collision involving a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Quantum at Gompo on Black Road in Duncan Village on Monday evening, 24 August 2026.
One of the occupants of the Toyota Corolla, including the driver, was declared dead at the scene. The vehicle reportedly had only two occupants, both allegedly male.
The two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions when they collided. The Toyota Quantum was travelling from Gompo towards Qonce and was carrying several passengers.
Twelve occupants of the Toyota Quantum sustained various injuries in the crash, while its driver escaped unharmed.
Emergency services rushed the injured passengers to Cecilia Makiwane and Frere hospitals for further medical assessment and treatment.
It is alleged that reckless and negligent driving may have contributed to the collision.
A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Duncan Village SAPS, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
